The Artist Behind the Canvas

Manana Gegidze is a contemporary Georgian artist whose work explores memory, resilience, nature, and the emotional landscapes that shape human experience. Born in Gali, Abkhazia, her life was profoundly affected by the conflict that displaced thousands from their homes. Forced to rebuild her life from the age of twenty-seven, she transformed adversity into a source of strength and creative inspiration.

A self-taught artist, Manana discovered painting through a deeply personal connection with the natural world. Spending time in the mountains of Georgia, surrounded by wilderness and silence, she experienced a creative awakening that would define the course of her life. What began as an intuitive desire to paint soon became a lifelong artistic journey.

Working primarily with acrylic and oil on canvas, Manana creates richly textured compositions that combine emotion, movement, and color. Her paintings are often inspired by memories, landscapes, and the enduring human spirit. Through layers of texture and expressive forms, she invites viewers to experience both personal reflection and universal themes of hope, transformation, and perseverance.

Throughout her artistic development, she has been encouraged and influenced by fellow artists and friends Amiran Kupra and David Gua. While remaining independent in her artistic vision, their support helped nurture her creative path.

Today, Manana continues to live and work in Tbilisi, Georgia. Her original paintings are held in private collections and are appreciated for their authenticity, emotional depth, and distinctive visual language. Each work is a unique expression of her lifelong dialogue with nature, memory, and the resilience of the human soul.

Through her art, Manana Gegidze seeks not only to create beautiful objects, but also to tell stories of endurance, belonging, and the quiet strength that emerges from life's most challenging journeys.

Artist Statement

My work is an exploration of memory, emotion, and the invisible connections between people and places. Inspired by the landscapes of Georgia and shaped by personal experiences of loss, displacement, and renewal, I use color and texture to express what words often cannot.

Each painting is a conversation between intuition and memory. Through layered surfaces and organic forms, I seek to create spaces where viewers can discover their own emotions, stories, and reflections. My goal is not to depict reality, but to evoke a feeling—one that remains with the viewer long after the first encounter.
